Aged care marketing challenges

Aged care marketing changed on 1 November 2025, when the new Aged Care Act and the Support at Home program started. Families can now check Star Ratings and published prices before they call, so providers need to be easy to find, easy to check and easy to contact.

Two audiences in every decision

The older person makes the choice, and the new Act lets them pick who supports them. Often that's an adult child doing the research after work. The government even publishes a Star Ratings guide written for family and carers, so your ads and pages need to speak to both.

Ratings and prices are public

Homes carry an Overall Star Rating built from residents' experience, compliance, staffing and quality measures. Support at Home providers must publish their usual price for each service on My Aged Care and their own site. Your marketing has to hold up next to what families see there.

Full homes, thin margins

Residential occupancy averaged 95.2% in the nine months to March 2026, while 62% of homes ran at an operating loss. Broad awareness spend is hard to justify. Budgets need to go where there are real vacancies, room types or service capacity to fill.

Strict rules on claims and contact

The Retirement Living Code of Conduct requires marketing that is honest, current, clear and accurate, with standard and optional charges kept apart. For NDIS services, the ACCC has warned that phrases like "NDIS approved" are misleading because the NDIS doesn't endorse providers.

An aged care marketing strategy that builds trust

Choosing care is one of the biggest decisions a family makes, and it often happens in a hurry after a fall or a hospital stay.

A good strategy meets people at that moment with clear, calm communication and gives them every reason to trust you.

We start with your value: what makes your organisation the right choice for this person, in this community. That might be your staff, your meals, your gardens, your language and cultural programs, or how you help people stay at home.

Then we take that message to market through the channels families actually use.

Channels for aged care and home care

We plan each channel around the people making the decision and the places they look.

Search

Ads and SEO for aged care, home care and respite searches near each site, with clear next steps.

Social media

Meta campaigns for adult children researching care, and posts that show daily life in your homes, shared with residents' consent.

Local media and community

Local press, community groups, GPs, hospital discharge teams and seniors' groups still shape decisions. We plan digital media alongside them.

Email and follow-up

Helpful, regular communication for families who aren't ready yet, such as guides to Support at Home, costs and what to ask on a tour.

How we build trust with families

Plain words, real photos and honest answers on price.

We publish prices where the rules require it and make them easy to understand.

Every claim about quality or Star Ratings is checked against your current rating before it runs.

And every enquiry gets a prompt, kind reply from a real person, because that first call is often where trust is won.

Who AI recommends right now

Every month we ask ChatGPT what one type of buyer would ask. This one is a family choosing an aged care home in Melbourne. It isn't your exact question, so run our free check to see your own. Is your business on the list?

Questions

How has the new Aged Care Act changed aged care marketing?

Since 1 November 2025, the new Act and Support at Home have put more information in families' hands. Home care providers must publish their usual prices on My Aged Care and their website, and residential homes are compared on Star Ratings. Marketing now works best when it answers the questions families bring from those tools.

Do you work with NDIS and retirement living providers?

Yes. The rules differ for each. NDIS providers can't suggest the NDIS approves or endorses them, or that funding covers things it doesn't. Retirement villages that sign the Retirement Living Code must keep marketing honest, current and clear and respect requests for no unsolicited contact. We write to those rules.

What should aged care providers measure?

Enquiries, tours or assessments booked, and move-ins or signed service agreements, by site and by campaign. Clicks and traffic are only useful if they lead to those.
