What the better conversion rate is worth

-more gross profit a year
-more enquiries a month
-more revenue a month
-conversion lift

Now and after, from the same traffic

An estimate from your own numbers: the same visitors, a different conversion rate. Real lifts depend on the page, the offer and the test, so we test every change against your current page before it stays.

How the calculator works

It keeps your traffic the same and changes one thing: the share of visitors who enquire or buy. That's the honest way to see what conversion rate optimisation (CRO) is worth, because every extra sale comes from visitors you're already paying for.

  1. Conversions: visitors a month times your conversion rate, now and after.
  2. Customers: for enquiries, conversions times your close rate. Online, every conversion is a sale.
  3. Revenue and gross profit: customers times your average sale value, then times your gross margin.
  4. Cost per conversion: your ad spend divided by your conversions. The same spend over more conversions makes each one cheaper.

Why a small lift is worth so much

A conversion rate moves in small numbers, so a lift looks small too. Going from 2% to 2.5% sounds like half a percent, but it's a 25% lift: a quarter more enquiries or sales from the same visitors. Say a builder gets 5,000 visitors a month and wins a quarter of their enquiries at $2,500 a job with a 40% margin. That half a percent is worth about $75,000 more gross profit a year, and the ads cost the same.

It also makes every advertising dollar go further. With $3,000 a month in ads, 100 enquiries cost $30 each; 125 enquiries cost $24 each. That lower cost per lead gives you room to bid on more searches or reach more people.

Where to start

Start with the pages most of your visitors see before they enquire or buy: product pages, quote forms, booking pages and checkout. Watch how real people use them, fix what stops them, and test each change against the current page. That's how our AI CRO work runs, as part of the AI plan.

Questions about conversion rates

What is a conversion rate?

The share of visitors who do what you want them to: enquire, book, call or buy. 50 enquiries from 2,000 visitors is a 2.5% conversion rate.

What's a good conversion rate?

It depends on what you sell, the price, the offer and where your visitors come from, so an average from another industry tells you little. Your own rate today is the number to beat, page by page and source by source.

How much can CRO lift conversions?

It depends on how much is getting in the way today. On the product pages we've tested for online stores, conversions rose by 22% to 100%. A test can also lose, which is why every change is tested against the current page before it stays.

Is more traffic or better conversion the cheaper way to grow?

Usually a better conversion rate first. More traffic costs more every month; a page that converts better keeps working on all of it, including the traffic you add later.
